Problem faced by fishermen at Sg Apong
Hugh barges ferrying stones and sand at Sg Tabuan which was berthed near CMS cement plant bridge has brought a lot of trouble to fishermen at Sg Apong who plied along the area.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth Chairman Tan Kai said the fisherman association had complained to him about the issue.
He then called for a dialogue between the the association and the companies to resolve the problem.
Tan Kai said although there was discussion between the two groups, there was no improvement for the fishermen, who could not pass the area as the barge occupied almost the whole river during low tide.
This, he added, has affected the livelihood of fishermen who wanted to go out to sea to fish.
He hoped that the relevant agency like Sarawak Rivers Board would look into the problem.
Tan Kai said he has also forwarded the issue to President Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian for further action to be taken.
