Sarawak should continue prioritising stability, unity and development, says Wilfred Yap
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has called on Sarawakians to continue supporting leadership that prioritises stability, development and the long term interests of the state as preparations gradually begin ahead of the next State Election.
Yap said it was natural for political activity to increase as elections draw nearer, with various political parties and individuals becoming more visible in local communities.
However, he encouraged voters to assess representatives based on their consistent service and track record rather than activities that emerge only during election periods.
“Sarawakians deserve leaders who remain engaged with residents throughout the year, working closely with local councils, government agencies and community organisations to address issues affecting daily life,” he said.
According to Yap, matters such as flood mitigation, drainage improvements, road maintenance, public facilities and community welfare require sustained commitment and cooperation rather than short term political engagement.
He said Sarawak’s political development has always been guided by its unique circumstances, diverse society and aspirations for greater autonomy and economic progress.
“Sarawak’s strength lies in its unity, stability and ability to pursue policies that reflect the needs and priorities of its people. Our political approach has always focused on safeguarding Sarawak’s interests while promoting harmony among our diverse communities,” he said.
Yap noted that under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the state has made significant progress in strengthening its economy, increasing state revenue, advancing Sarawak’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), attracting investments and implementing long term development plans.
He said these efforts have enabled Sarawak to invest in key sectors including education, healthcare, renewable energy and digital infrastructure while creating more opportunities for future generations.
“The progress achieved today is the result of political stability, sound governance and a clear focus on development. These are important foundations that must be preserved for Sarawak’s continued growth,” he said.
He stressed that meaningful progress requires patience, commitment and collaboration among all stakeholders.
“Ultimately, the future of Sarawak should continue to be shaped by Sarawakians themselves. We must remain united in pursuing policies and initiatives that strengthen our economy, improve infrastructure, protect our rights and create a brighter future for all,” he said.
Yap added that voters should carefully consider the leadership and policies they believe can best deliver continued stability, development and prosperity for the state.
“By remaining united and focused on our shared goals, Sarawak can continue building on its achievements and ensure sustainable progress for future generations,” he said.
“Stability, unity and development must remain our priorities as we move forward together as one Sarawak.”
