Missing Kuching man safely returns from China, says Milton Foo

A 38 year old Kuching man who was reported missing in China has safely returned to Malaysia and reunited with his family, according to SUPP Public Complaints Bureau chief Milton Foo.

Foo said the case, which prompted a public appeal for assistance on Jan 5, 2026, was successfully resolved through the coordinated efforts of Malaysian and Chinese authorities.

He explained that after the family lodged reports with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sarawak Office in December last year, the matter was pursued through official channels involving the Malaysian Embassy in China, relevant Consulates General, and the Chinese Public Security authorities.

“Through the concerted efforts of all parties, the individual was eventually able to contact his family and has safely returned home,” he said.

Foo expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sarawak Office, the Malaysian Embassy in China, Chinese Consul General in Kuching Xing Weiping, the police, and the Chinese authorities for their assistance and cooperation in resolving the case.

He also thanked the media for helping to raise public awareness on the importance of consular protection for Malaysians travelling abroad.

Foo advised Malaysians travelling overseas for business or leisure to maintain regular contact with their families and to comply with local laws and regulations.

“In the event of an emergency overseas, Malaysians should contact the nearest Malaysian Embassy or Consulate General for consular assistance,” he said.

He added that members of the public seeking further assistance may also contact the SUPP Public Complaints Bureau.
