Sebastian Ting: Water supply situation remains stable as residents prepare for pipeline shutdown

Piasau Assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said the supply of drinking water at supermarkets and retail outlets in Miri remains generally sufficient despite increased demand following the announcement of the upcoming water pipeline shutdown.

Ting said he visited several supermarkets and retail outlets on Wednesday morning to assess the availability of drinking water supplies and the preparedness of residents ahead of the temporary disruption.

“Based on my observations, most outlets still have sufficient stocks of drinking water available, although some are currently awaiting restocking from their suppliers,” he said.

According to Ting, some residents only began purchasing drinking water and other essential items after the official confirmation and announcement of the shutdown as a precautionary measure.

He noted that Sarawak Water had identified the pipeline leakage on May 26 and had taken early action to plan repair works, coordinate response measures and issue public notices.

“This provided residents, businesses and institutions with sufficient time to prepare for the shutdown,” he said.

Ting added that the overall situation remains orderly, with most people having made the necessary preparations for the temporary disruption.

He expressed hope that the repair works would proceed smoothly and that water supply restoration could be completed as soon as possible.
“We encourage everyone to remain calm, cooperate with the relevant authorities and support one another during this period. Together, we will get through this challenge,” he said.
