Community to help fight dengue fever

Agencies and stakeholders are urged to step up measures to heighten awareness and sustain a momentum of community efforts as we enter the traditional peak dengue season in the Landas season. In order to avert a major dengue outbreak, residents in areas where dengue alert is high should regularly practise Anti Mosquito Measure and to take urgent collective action to reduce mosquito breeding habitats in the fight against the spread of dengue fever, said SUPP Batu Kitang Organising Secretary Gerald Goh.

Goh who joined a cleaning campaign this morning said according to statistic from Jabatan Kesihatan, there are currently dengue cases found within the vicinity of the Everbright Park near third mile Bazaar, Kuching.

On 13th January 2024, he added, JKKK Kawasan Batu 3-6 Kuching headed by Kapitan Kuan Ted Chai recently worked in collaboration with the Resident’s Office as well as Padawan Municipal Council will organize a Gotong Royong session to clear out possible rubbish within the area.

‘We strongly invite and urge all homeowners within the vicinity to join in the Gotong Royong Session and together help to take immediate action to prevent mosquito breeding, ” he said.

Goh further expressed that there is a dire need to call for intensive and concerted community effort to search for and remove stagnant water within each community. The effort should start now with the coming of raining season and it should cover two mosquito breeding cycles, helping to reduce the mosquito population and thus dengue risk.

With the coming of the rain, he said he expected that there will be a surge in the number of dengue cases in the coming months, it is critical that all residents and stakeholders take immediate action to suppress the Aedes mosquito population and break disease transmission. Concerted community action and sustained vector control efforts will prevent further escalation of dengue cases.
