Press statement by BN Sibu and Lanang Parliamentary seats co-ordinators: 24 September 201
The two parliamentary seats of Sibu (P212) and Lanang (P211) are to be represented by members from the component parties of BN in the 14th Parliamentary election due in 2018. Both seats have always been represented by SUPP, a founding member of BN. UPP is not a component party of BN and its members cannot represent BN in the coming parliamentary election.
This statement is made in response to the news report on DatukTiong’s comment that UPP is grooming candidates for Lanang seat. He made the comment during a function by Dudong Branch of UPP recently.
In addition, DatukTiong claimed that he is the chairman of Dudong Branch. This contradicted with his action of resigning from UPP before the State election in May this year. DatukTiong is required to join a component party of BN as condition of him being chosen to stand under BN logo during the state election. DatukTiong has to honour his promise of joining a BN component party. He continues to let down all Dudong voters who voted for BN by delaying his joining a BN component party.
UPP is not a component party of BN. It has chosen not to apply to join as a member of BN despite continuously claiming to be part of BN. In the most recent BN Supreme Council meeting two days ago, there was no application by UPP to join as BN member despite its public stand otherwise.
We urge DatukTiong to return to its original party, SUPP, for the sake of the unity of the people in Sibu and the Chinese community. We have to stand united if we are not to be marginalized. SUPP welcomes DatukTiong to return to SUPP.
