Sarawakian should be aware of their rights
Secretary general of SUPP, Dato’ Sebastian Ting said the objective of inviting activist Zainnal Ajamain to give a talk on “A Missing Piece of our history” – setting the direction for the Borneo States is merely to create an awareness of the history of Formation of Malaysia.
The Forum held at the SUPP Sa’ati Hall was organised by Ting who said many Sarawakians are unaware of the rights of Sarawakians when Sarawak together with Sabah and Singapore formed Malaysia way back in 1963.
He said during the formation, conditions were set to allow Sarawak to have autonomy in Religion, Education, Immigration, to name a few.
For the past 52 years, there was never a forum like this to educate us on our rights and if we do not start finding that out now, we will never know.
He said that was why the Chief Minsiter kept emphasising on the autonomy of Sarawak as he wants the best for ourselves.
Ting added that in history, be it primary or secondary, there was no mention at all of Sarawak being partners of Malaya. He said with the Forum, it will be an enlightenment for many Sarawakians to know the real history.
