Korean singer

Popular Korean singer, Lee Jung paid a visit to Sarawak for the first time to see for himself what Sarawak has to offer.

In a press conference yesterday, Lee Jung, through a translator, said he is interested to become an ambassador for Sarawak to bring in Korean tourists here.

He said he has met with Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tourism Sarawak, Datu Ik Pahon Joyik to voice his interest.  Saying that Sarawak is a very beautiful place with lots of natural beauty to offer, Lee said he also planed to set up a K Pop concert the earliest by next March.

Coming to Sarawak with his team, Lee said he wanted to explore and find out more on Sarawak in his five day stay here.

He believed that besides introducing Sarawak to Koreans, he said it would be a good place too for Korean to learn language like English and Mandarin here. “We can even organise sporting competition.

Should he get the ambassadorship, Lee said he would asked for a direct flight from Korea to Kuching as at the moment, the transit flight is a bit tedious to travel.

On the planned K pop concert, Lee said he understand that there was never one held in Sarawak. He said the team would work out a time particularly during school holidays so they could draw more crowds from Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Secretary general, Dato’ Sebastian Ting who was also present said he had been to Korea in June and had attended Lee’s concert.

He said SUPP would want to play their role in bringing in more tourist from Korea through such cordial relationship. This, he said, would be a good start as Sarawak has so much to offer and it is a safe place for tourists.
