Adam Yii Says Voters Reject Malaya Politics
SUPP Central Publicity Secretary Adam Yii said the Sabah election results clearly show that voters no longer accept parties that only shout slogans, lack their own identity, and fail to defend local rights. He said Sarawak voters must take this as a lesson and remain firm in protecting local interests.
Yii said DAP’s total defeat in Sabah, where the party lost every seat it contested, was not a coincidence but a concentrated response to long standing voter dissatisfaction. “They only know how to shout slogans but fail to deliver results, and voters have given their answer through the ballot box,” he added.
He said DAP in East Malaysia had previously relied on emotional slogans and mobilising sentiment, gaining strong support especially in urban areas and among young Chinese voters. However, after coming to power, the party failed to fulfil its promises, particularly on key issues involving Sarawak and Sabah’s rights.
“When the people expected them to defend reforms, transparency and fairness, what we saw instead was silence and retreat. On important matters such as MA63, autonomy and resource distribution, they followed the central Malaya position,” he said.
Yii added that what voters could not accept was DAP’s attempt to downplay responsibility by saying it needed to maintain cooperation with the federal government. “They repeatedly used the excuse of keeping good relations with the federal government, not realising that this is proof of bending to Malaya and sacrificing Sabah and Sarawak’s interests.”
He stressed that Sabah and Sarawak people are not against cooperation with the federal government, but such cooperation must be based on equality, not on sacrificing rights or unconditional obedience. “What Sabah and Sarawak need are leaders who can stand as equals with West Malaysia, not proxy agents of Malaya based parties.”
He said voters in Sabah and Sarawak want leaders who can negotiate fairly at the federal level and secure equitable resources and policies, not subordinates who can only take instructions and cannot uphold local interests. “Sabah voters have sent a very clear message: they refuse to become bargaining chips for Malaya parties to strengthen their power.”
Yii said Sarawak must learn from Sabah’s experience and reject parties that cannot safeguard Sarawak’s rights. He noted that Sarawak has built a unique development model, including autonomy, resource management, energy planning and cross cultural cooperation, and these achievements must be protected.
He said the Sabah election showed that many parties are now adopting Sarawak’s model in their manifestos, proving that Sarawak is helping shape political reform across Malaysia. “Every seat won by Malaya based parties that lack Sabah and Sarawak identity will only weaken our negotiating power at the federal level and undermine Sarawak’s current autonomy and progress.”
He stressed that DAP in Sarawak and Sabah both follow a single central leadership. As long as they must obey directives from the Malaya headquarters, Sarawak DAP will remain a proxy and cannot truly represent Sarawakians. “This is not an attack but a structural reality. Sarawak DAP must ultimately follow Malaya leaders, and Sarawak’s interests will always be placed behind national party strategy.”
“Sabah has awakened, and Sarawak is already a model of stable development. We are on the right path and must stay firm in protecting Sarawak’s stability, autonomy and prosperity.”
