Wilfred Yap welcomes long awaited drainage upgrade for Happy Valley

Kota Sentosa State assemblyman Wilfred Yap has welcomed the official kickoff of the “Membaikpulih Dan Menaiktaraf Sistem Saliran di Taman Happy Valley” project, calling it a long overdue solution to years of repeated flash floods in the area.

Implemented by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Sarawak, the project will be carried out by Armani Rewards Sdn Bhd. The Site Possession Date is 24 November 2025, with completion scheduled for 23 August 2026. The project carries a contract value of RM 2.53 million.

Yap said the commencement of the works marks a significant milestone after years of persistent requests made on behalf of the community. He said Happy Valley residents have endured frequent flash floods for too long, and the start of this project brings much needed relief.

He added that he had continuously raised the issue with DID Sarawak and other technical agencies, visited the site repeatedly after major rain incidents, and ensured residents’ complaints and evidence were formally submitted, resulting in the project being prioritised and approved.

During the kickoff meeting, Yap reminded the appointed contractor to adhere to the timeline and ensure high quality workmanship. He said he will personally monitor progress throughout the project period from November 2025 to August 2026.

The drainage upgrading project includes rehabilitation of the drainage network, improved water flow capacity, and long term flood mitigation measures.

Yap also assured residents that regular updates and traffic notices will be provided as works progress.
