Padawan Municipal Council Rewards Shops with Clean Tiolets
Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has lauded local businesses and facility operators for their commitment to hygiene during the 2025 Clean Food Premises and Clean, Attractive and Fragrant (BMW) Toilets competitions.
MPP Chairman Cr Tan Kai said the initiative reflects the council’s ongoing effort to promote public health awareness and environmental sustainability in line with the state’s Post Covid 19 Development Strategy 2030.
“This competition supports our Environmental Policy by improving cleanliness, public health, and environmental management,” Tan Kai said during the certificate and souvenir presentation ceremony held at the MPP Training Room on 21 November. “With joint effort, we can make Padawan a cleaner, more liveable, sustainable and competitive town.”
A total of 23 Grade B food premises participated, with 10 being recognised as winners. Additionally, 10 premises successfully upgraded to Grade A this year.
The BMW toilet competition, open to petrol stations, shopping centres and licensed food premises, selected five top toilets from each category based on the Malaysian Public Toilet Management and Star Rating Guidelines (KPKT).
Tan Kai emphasised that maintaining clean premises and toilets is not only a matter of comfort but also critical for public health. “Dirty food premises can lead to food poisoning and infectious diseases, while poorly maintained toilets become breeding grounds for germs. Hygiene protects the community and builds consumer confidence,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of cleanliness for tourism, noting that clean and pleasant facilities enhance Padawan’s image and attractiveness to visitors.
Tan Kai congratulated all winners and encouraged continued efforts to maintain high hygiene standards for the benefit of both the community and business development.
