Padawan Municipal Council Chairman, Tan Kai checks put Stakan Bridge
MPP Chairman, Cr. Tan Kai, was updated by officers from the Engineering Division regarding the temporary measures implemented at Stakan Bridge following reports of road sinking at the bridge approaches.
He said since receiving complaints about the road sinking on May 2 through various channels such as Talikhidmat, Borang Aduan, and the MPP Hotline, the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has taken swift action by engaging its term contractor to carry out immediate temporary measures to ensure the safety of road users.
“We have acted promptly in response to the concerns raised by the public,” said Tan Kai. “Our priority is always the safety and well-being of the community, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
On Friday, MPP mobilised its internal team to inspect the site and assess the situation. Warning notices were also issued to road users regarding the work scheduled for the following day, 3 May 2025 (Saturday). On Saturday, MPP carried out the temporary works from 10.30 am to 6.00 pm, he said.
The operation was led by MPP Council Engineer and staff who also managed the traffic due to the high volume of vehicles at the site.
The term contractor deployed a team of nine personnel, including one JCB with operator, one lorry driver, two supervisors, and four general workers to ensure the work was completed within the same day. The scope of work included laying of base premix, installation of five steel plates (1.5m x 3m x 25mm thick), and an additional 50mm thick premix layer on the surface.
Tan Kai expressed his appreciation to both the MPP team and the term contractor for their swift response and successful completion of the temporary works. “This is a testament to the effective collaboration between MPP staff and our contractors to address urgent issues efficiently,” he added.
He also advised heavy vehicles to use alternative routes to help prevent further sinking of the road and to ensure the longevity of the temporary measures. “We will continue to work on a permanent solution for Stakan Bridge to ensure the safety of all road users in the long term,” he added.
