SUPP Party President, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian relaunching Dewan Sa’ati Sibu
SUPP Party President, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian relaunched Dewan Sa’ati at SUPP Sibu, the building of the branch that marked the birth of SUPP Sarawak United Peoples’ Party 65 years ago in Sibu.
SUPP was established in 1959 and the oldest political party in Sarawak.
The Dewan symbolised the struggles of SUPP for people of Sarawak and participation in the ruling government of Sarawak, contributing to the progress of Sarawak for the last 54 years (since 1970), said Dr Sim.
He said the SUPP Sibu building was bought through donation from members of the party and and the public at RM900,000 to purchase the three units of shophouse in 1989.
The second fund raising was in 1997 to renovate the building.
In 2024, he said is the third fund raising for the renovation, more importantly after SUPP won the court case in 2016 to reclaim it legally and rightfully as SUPP property.
