Drug prevention in Kampung Haji Baki
Sarawak State National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and NGO, Squad Anti Dadah NGO have organised a number of crime prevention programs in Kampung Haji Baki which is a high risk drug area.
State Assemblyman for Batu Kitang, Lo Khere Chiang who officiated at the Function recently said it is necessary for the government to step in to bring the youth and family members together and mobilizer to have a monitoring program.
He said Sarawak government is concern about drug problem in the state and will do all they can to control it. Thus a Majlis Pembangunan Sosial Sarawak and one-stop committee has been set up to monitor drug problem all over the state.
Although, there are still areas where drugs exist, Lo said they will never give up fighting the menace.
“This type of program can increase awareness and get parents and community involved. They will be taught how to handle and where to go for help if their children are involved in drugs. The best is the prevention,” he added.
Haji Baki is the first Kampung in Sarawak to set up a Jawatankuasa Penggerak Komuniti Sejahtera which acts as a front liner to overcome drugs in the community.
During the program, some ex-drug dependents gave talk to the audiences on danger of drugs. 30 parents and 35 youths were invited to join the program.
