CWC suspension of the Sibu branch
SUPP Central Working Committee (CWC) has suspended the Sibu branch for six months which will be under review but the branch will not be able to hold its branch election or be involved in the coming Triennial delegates’ conference in August.
President of the party, Tan Sri Peter Chin in a press conference after chairing a six-hour meeting, said they have to suspend the Sibu branch due to the present chaotic scenario as former branch chairman, Dato’ Seri Wong Soon Koh and key members of the branch had left the party to join Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak(TERAS)
He said after the CWC deliberating the issue, they had come to the conclusion that it was not possible for the Sibu branch to be involved in this election even though a number of them were Life members.
Furthermore, he added that, up to date, the party central has not received any submission of copies of receipts of payment of annual subscription from the party members of Sibu branch. In such circumstances, the party Central is unable to determine who has paid and who has not paid the annual subscription as there is no record available at the SUPP Sibu branch office.
“That is why we appointed Chieng Boon Tuong to oversee the Sibu branch and in charge of the Branch Management committee,” said Chin.
Chin pointed out that the CWC had also approved the Management committee to administer the branch with the view to organise and set up Bukit Assek, Pahlawan, Dudong, Bawang Assan and Nangka branches subject to the approval of the Registrar of Society (ROS) .
He assured all members in Sibu that the Central committee is concerned of what has transpired and they would do their best to have all the branches set up and worked to strengthen the SUPP in Sibu. “We want them to be set up soon and be a force there to prepare for the next election,” he added.
Chin expressed his concern on some issues affecting the coming TDC which will be in August. He expressed his concern the possibility that there were some former SUPP members who wanted to disturb the TDC and due to this, police reports had been lodged. “We are working closely with the police to ensure the TDC will go on smoothly,” he added.
