Withdraw appeal on High Court ruling on citizenship, says Kho Teck Wan

SUPP Woman Chief said she agreed with Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim and many NGOs who urged the federal government to withdraw the appeal of the recent High Court ruling that recognises citizenship rights to children born abroad regardless if the Malaysian parents is the father or mother.

“I can’t speak on behalf of Sarawak Government, but SUPP through our party Secretary General Dato Sebastian Ting expressed our disappointment and urge the Federal government to withdraw the appeal. The federal government’s decision to file the appeal on the high court’s decision not only continue the suffering of some parents, but discriminate women and putting a child’s future in jeopardy, ” she said.

Kho added that Children do not choose which country and what parents they will be born into. The unlucky one ended up stateless and was denied proper education and healthcare, which subsequently caused adverse impact to their prospect and potential as an adult. Some even ended up becoming a burden to the society.

“I therefore would like to concur and reiterate the wish of SUPP, NGOs and Johor’s Sultan, and urge the federal government to drop the appeal on the recent high court ruling,” she said.
