Impersonating Sebastian Ting
SUPP Piasau State Assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting called to all friends not to be conned by anyone with a number who claimed to be him.
Ting who lodged a police report this morning at Miri police central station said he received a message from a community leader, Leonard Fung who asked him if he has another handphone number.
Fung told him that a number 0163876619 texted him saying, “Hello Leondard Fung, How are you doing? It’s me, Seb ting, I lost my phone but I got your contact. This is my new contact number.”
The same person then sent over a photo of Ting which was from his FB account and asked Fung, Now you remember me? Fung asked if he(fake Ting) wants anything and the fellow texted back saying, “no” . So Fung said goodbye. He then felt it was strange and contacted Ting using Ting’s original number.
Ting said at first he thought he would ignore it. But he felt that he better do something as he has over 10,000 contacts in his handphone. He is worried that his other friends may also receive the same kind of message.
So he decided to lodge a police report and urged police to investigate.
Ting said his handphone is not lost and he is still using the same phone number. He urged those who received the message claiming to be him to ignore the texts.
