No need for SDMC to lie about figures, says Dr. Sim
Sarawak Local Government and Housing Minister Dato’ Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian retorted that the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will never make false reports on the COVID-19 outbreak because its sole duty is to protect Sarawakians from the disease
Dr. Sim when contacted by Utusan Sarawak said that there are some people who questioned Sarawak’s coronavirus data, saying that someone was quarantined in the Sarawak general hospital but there was no announcement on the confirmed cases that day.
There is absolutely no reasons for SDMC to hide results, otherwise we would not have spend so much more money for additional test be it surveillance in airport, markets, plantation, construction sites. Implement inter zone travelling, etc. If there are 25 confirmed cases that day, we will announce 25 cases, ” he said.
Quarantine for Patient under surveillance (PUS), he added, doesn’t mean they have infection. It is just the extra precaution that we take to double check.
He added that many people do not understand the authorities’ practices. If the relevant person is suspected of being infected with COVID-19, the authorities will immediately arrange for him to be quarantined and will not wait for the diagnosis.Dr. Sim pointed out that it would be too slow to isolate the patient after the diagnosis is confirmed. Therefore, when a suspected case occurs in some schools, the authorities will immediately instruct all students in the relevant class to be isolated. Some people will be sent to the hospital for isolation to facilitate observation of the condition.
He assured the people not to worry about the rumors of false reports reported by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee as ther is no way the SDMC would do so.
