It is Sarawak’s decision, says Dr. Sim on citizenship application
SUPP President, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian said the Sarawak government should be the decision maker on citizenship applications originating from the state as they know best.
Dr. Sim who is also the Minister for Local Government and Housing said Sarawak has the autonomy powers over Immigation matters thus it is only right that such decision should be handled by Sarawak government.
Who the state wants to be a Malaysian citizen for Sarawak is only logical to be made by us.
Expressing his unhappiness for the discontinuing of the Sarawak special committee on citizenship announced by Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recently, Dr. Sim said Sarawak committee is redundant.
He said how can it be redundant when the committee made case study of each and every application thoroughly before submitting them for approval to the Home minister. “These are special circumstances and it is SUPP’s duty to ensure that Federal government honour its obligation and give the authority to Sarawak government to decide.
Dr. Sim pointed out that each application from different states is different and thus for Sarawak here, only Sarawak government will know best what it is doing. He urged Putra Jaya not to deny the applications of their rights to stay here just because of their quests to have the upper hand. Such thing, said Dr. Sim, should not be used by politicians as power play but instead a lot of compassion is needed in such circumstances.
Cases brought up by Sarawak government are genuine and he added, there is no foul play.
