Sibu Jaya Night Market

Local government and housing Minister, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian wants to target 17 night markets in Sarawak after he officiate one in Sibu Jaya Friday night which was initiated by the Sibu Rural district council.

Dr. Sim said night markets are important component of towns, functioning as tourist attractions due to their uniqueness and variety of foods and merchandise, besides improving the socio-economy of the people as they can bring in tourism and would be a new attraction for Sibu Jaya.

He called to the people to be mindful of the cleanliness aspect, which is an important factor to draw the crowd.

Congratulating SRDC for setting a good example with such idea, Dr. Sim also urged hawkers to come up with new and attractive items to attract not only local, but foreign tourists as well.

Among those in attendance were chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), Datuk Tiong Thai King; chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), Sempurai Petrus Ngelai; and deputy chairman of SRDC, Cr Robert Lau Hui Yew.

The market has 104 stalls and operates from 4pm to 11pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
