Statement by Pol. Sec. Michael Tiang

“Pakatan Harapan should stop fudging Sarawakians in the name of “Save Malaysia“, said Michael Tiang, a Political Secretary to the Chief Minister of Sarawak in his press statement today.

Tiang said, Pakatan Harapan used “New Deal New Hope” as their main theme for their very first ceramah at BDC, Kuching last night with many main speakers including PH chairman Tun Dr. Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang. “ ”Pakatan Harapan leaders claimed that they are “saving Malaysia” and Sarawak people should join their bandwagon, but these Malayan opposition leaders continued to fail to show any genuine concerns for Sarawak’s constitutional position and rights as provided under MA63 and Inter-Governmental Committee Report (IGC Report).” “They were fudging Sarawakians by producing their new manifesto with generic wordings, hoping that is good enough to convince Sarawakians that we only deserve that much,” said Tiang.

“There are no details as to what they can do for Sarawak people, but only rhetoric on the stage to fudge the crowds. I believe Sarawakians are tired of letting others to decide what Sarawakians deserve to have,” Tiang said, “Sarawakians are only interested in getting back we are entitled to own and enjoy under MA63 and IGC Report. In this aspect, our Sarawak Government has been working unceasingly with the Federal Government in devolution of powers as well as setting up our own Petroleum company PETROS and development bank DEBOS under our CM Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.”

Tiang further criticised Pakatan Harapan, “PH’s claim of saving Malaysia is nothing about saving Sarawak. Instead, they only want our votes to save Tun Dr. Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang.” “They have forgotten that in the last century, there were many Sarawakian banks but they were later forced to merge with Semenanjung banks under Tun Dr. Mahathir’s administration. This unwarranted policy had adversely curtail the growth of our local market for its financing needs until to date.”

Tiang further said, “PH leaders also have no clue about our supposed rights and interests under MA63. When some of their leaders were barred from entering Sarawak, PH leaders like Lim Kit Siang criticised us for abusing our immigration powers.” Tiang questioned, “if Lim Kit Siang still cannot accept the fact that Sarawak owns and controls its own immigration powers since 1963, how can we expect him to bring us any NEW DEAL NEW HOPE?”
