Allocation for flood mitigation projects for Batu Kitang and Batu Kawah
The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has been allocated RM30 million for flood mitigation projects.
Chairman of the Council, Lo Khere Chiang said the amount was approved by the Ministry of Local Government under Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“Most of the projects will be carried out in major areas like Batu Kitang and Batu Kawah,” he told reporters yesterday after chairing a full council meeting.
Lo, who is Batu Kitang assemblyman, said Padawan flyover projects would be carried out as scheduled at Kuching Sentral and Mile 4 1/2 in August.
Meanwhile, he said the council has received a letter of appreciation from the Ministry of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing acknowledging MPP’s efforts in helping to carry out the 1Azam programme.
He said MPP currently runs the programme in three categories – kiosk, grass cutting and retail shops – in villages involving 11 participants.
“The letter means a lot to us and will motivate us,” he said, adding that the programme will continue this year.
