Statement by Milton Foo In response to oil price hike
In response to the oil price hike of RON95 at RM2.10 per liter and RON97 at RM2.60 per liter, I state the following:
1. Oil/Petroleum found in Sarawak should belong to the people of Sarawak. As such, we deserve a separate tier or system of oil price from Semenanjung which shall be at least 20% lower in price comparing to the Semenanjung or the world market price since we have contributed so much in petroleum resources in Malaysia (47%). Also not to forget billions of dollars each year are into the pockets of Petronas & the Federal government which are generated from the land of Sarawak.
2. The Petroleum Development Act 1974 which took away our Sarawakians’ rights over petroleum found within our territories including those found in our offshore was unconstitutional, null & void as it did not follow a substantive provision of the Federal Constitution.
3. It is therefore unfair to the people of Sarawak where oil resources were taken away from us by the Federal government through the device of the said unconstitutional Act of Parliament.
4. I urge the Sarawak Government to take a proactive role in setting up our very own petroleum company to take full charge of our own petroleum resources for the best interest & benefit of the people of Sarawak in a long run.
5. The proposed two tiers of oil price for Semenanjung & Sarawak should only be used as “temporary mechanism” to ensure Sarawakians are being treated in a more fairly manner in the light the State’s contribution to the oil production in Malaysia.
6. Each & every Sarawakian deserves the right to know on how the 5% oil & gas royalty was calculated all these years by the Federal government and also Petronas. In this matter, all Sarawakians must stand up and be united, in one collective voice regardless of his political background that we should no longer condone the wrongful act of Federal government to further snatch our wealth but to return to us what’s ours is ours as safeguarded under MA63 and the Federal Constitution.
