SUPP conveys condolences on passing of Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Dr Jane Yong Sau Kan
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) secretary general Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew has extended his deepest condolences on the passing of Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Dr Jane Yong Sau Kan.
Speaking on behalf of SUPP, Ting said Dr Jane, the beloved wife of the late former Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak and former SUPP president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai, would be remembered for her lifelong dedication, humility and strength of character.
He conveyed his sincere sympathies to her family during this difficult time. Dr Jane, who lived to the age of 100, was known for her resilience, modesty and firm principles. She stood steadfastly by her late husband throughout his political journey, supporting him as he served the people and led SUPP through years of challenges and service.
A respected medical practitioner, she served the community with compassion and professionalism, caring deeply for her patients. Her sense of responsibility and composure were evident not only in her medical career but also in her contributions to her family, society and the party.
Since joining SUPP in 1978, she remained loyal and committed, earning respect within the party for her perseverance, especially during challenging times.
Ting also recalled her determination in August 2017 when, despite her advanced age and limited mobility following an ankle injury, she insisted on appearing as a key witness in SUPP’s legal action to reclaim three shophouses in Sibu.
Her testimony proved crucial in enabling the party to successfully recover the properties. She had walked step by step to the High Court, where she was greeted with applause in recognition of her courage.
She once remarked that she would testify even if she had to attend in a wheelchair, reflecting her unwavering commitment to truth and principle.
Throughout her life, she remained humble and never sought personal recognition. She had declined personal honours and accepted only the Sa’ati Lifetime Loyalty and Dedication Award on behalf of her late husband, reflecting her devotion and loyalty.
Ting said her passing was a great loss not only to her family but also to SUPP and the people of Sarawak, adding that her legacy would be remembered for generations.
He prayed that her soul would rest in peace and that her family would find strength and comfort in this time of grief.
