Miri pickleball tournament highlights growing community spirit
Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting today joined a pickleball tournament organised by the SUPP Piasau Branch, expressing appreciation to participants and organisers for their strong support and enthusiasm.
He said the encouraging response from the public reflects the growing appeal of the sport, which continues to gain momentum across the country.
“Pickleball may be relatively new, but its development has been rapid and remarkable. It is something we can take pride in, as the sport first originated here in Miri, with the Malaysia Pickleball Association also registered locally,” he said.
Ting noted that pickleball’s accessibility makes it suitable for all age groups, as it is easy to learn and inclusive.
“Like badminton and other familiar sports, it has the potential to become part of our daily lifestyle,” he added.
He also encouraged families and the wider community to take part in the sport, highlighting its benefits in promoting an active lifestyle while strengthening family bonds and community ties.
Ting also conveyed his appreciation to the SUPP women’s section, youth section, and all committee members for their dedication and efforts in ensuring the success of the tournament.
