Dr Sim on the Court of Appeal decision on delineation exercise

President of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Senator Datuk Dr Sim Hui Kian said this is the process of the law and as always, we respect the decision of the court.

“This is the first case of such nature where the delineation exercise of proposed new boundaries of new seats by the Election commission (EC) was challenged in court. The High Court then held that the Election Commission did not follow all the procedures and thus the whole delineation exercise of the proposed 11 new state seats was declared null and void.

On appeal, the Court of Appeal overturned the High Court decision.

Datuk Dr Sim said the decision is an important one as it involves thr general public interest. According to the law, he added that, the respondents will have a period of time for them to appeal to the Federal court and Leave to the appeal must first be obtained from the Court of Appeal.

Notwithstanding the above, Datuk Dr Sim reiterated that SUPP has always advocated the principle of “one man one vote.”

“SUPP is just not a Chinese party or an urban party. We are multi-racial and have rural seats,” he added.

Pointing out an example, Dr. Sim said in the case of Bengoh, should it be split into two, naturally, the seat goes back to SUPP.
