SUPP SUPPORTS TRANSPARENCY IN POLITICAL FUNDING

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) wholeheartedly and fully supports the policy of transparency related to donations to political parties. We believe this policy will help to combat opportunities for corruption.

We have on many occasions emphasised and demonstrated that under the new SUPP leadership there is no big corporation supporting the Party nor has any leader in the new SUPP leadership been allocated with any project.

Therefore, if a policy of transparency for source of political funding is introduced, SUPP will be among the first few to disclose the origin of their funds. SUPP will fully comply with any policy or legislated regulations on this important matter.

People are aware that there are businesses or institutions that contribute large sums of money to political parties for their political campaigns. Therefore once a policy of transparency is introduced the public will be aware of which institution, business entity or individuals are providing the financial support to political parties.

Our Prime Minister and Barisan National President Datuk Sri Najib, has proposed legislation to introduce transparency into the funding of political parties. If this legislation was tabled in Parliament, we will fully support it.

The current expectations of our people is not only for politicians to be hard working, additionally they also expect honesty, integrity and full transparency in all aspects from their representative’s.

This laws to support these expectations must be applied rigorously to all political parties, whether they BN or the opposition.

We strongly urge all political parties to support any proposal to modify the Electoral Act to include provisions relating to the mandatory disclosure of political donations and the publication of the list of donors to the political parties.

These measures will ensure that the people of Malaysia will become the real beneficiaries and our democracy will be enhanced with clean governance.

It is timely for all Political Parties in our country to Walk the Talk.
