SUPP against UMNO setting up a local branch for Sarawakians in Johor.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Organizing Secretary Matthew Chen Thin Kong commented that there is no need for UMNO Johor to set up a local branch serving the Sarawak people who are working in Johor.

He said SUPP is very worried that this establishment has its own political purposes, and as an alternative channel for the UMNO political influence to extend to Sarawak. So, SUPP strongly opposed it.

He said the state BN chairman YAB Tan Sri Adenan Satem has repeatedly indicated, most recently is on February 14 this year, against the need of UMNO to enter Sarawak. Sarawak has four Barisan Nasional component parties, that is PBB, SUPP, PRS and SPDP and they have proven to be effective in governing Sarawak.

SUPP agreed with YAB Tan Sri Adenan’s position on this issue, not because SUPP do not like UMNO, but because the existing Sarawak BN political parties are already governing Sarawak well. Under the state BN component parties we are able to work together and cooperate successfully to take care of all Sarawakians.

Matthew Chen Thin Kong was commenting on the Johor UMNO leader, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin’s recent proposal to set up UMNO branch for the Sarawak people who are working in Johor.

“It is undeniable that there are about 30,000 to 40,000 Sarawak citizens working in Johor. They will inevitably facing some difficulties in their daily life and need to get attention and assistance from the authorities concerned. But setting up UMNO branch for them is definitely not the best way to solve their problems.”

Matthew Chen Thin Kong has recommended that the four Sarawak Barisan Nasional component parties may establish the local club or fraternity organization, allowing interactions among the Sarawak citizens. Such organizations not only allows them to communicate directly with local government, but also serve to delivering our state Government’s policy to them in a timely manner. Thus, even though they are outside the state, they are able to obtain accurate information.
