Thankful for the abolishment of toll charges
SUPP Dato’ Sebastian Ting said the party appreciated the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for abolishing the toll at Lanang Road and maintaining Igan bridge to continue to be toll free by erecting a billboard near the Lanang bridge.
Adenan announced on the last day of DUN in his winding up speech that come May 25th, the Lanang bridge toll would be abolished.
Lanang bridge was constructed in 2003 with a length of 1.2 km and many road users traveled to Sarikei through the bridge. The toll for motorcycle cost 50 cents, RM 3 for cars, RM8 for buses and RM15 for lorries. For trailer, it cost RM25.
Ting said during the Chinese new year celebration in Sibu when Adenan graced their function, he had already said he is working to abolish the toll and he has made good his promise.
The chief minister, said Ting, has always has the people’s interest at heart and due to his kind gesture, Sibu SUPP set up the billboard near the Lanang bridge to thank him for his kind gesture. Ting said that the abolishment of the toll would indeed help the people staying in the area and Sarawak welcome such good news from the chief minister.
Ting added that Adenan is also working towards a plan to abolish the toll in Kuching toll bridge and the Asean bridge in Miri.
