New Year message from Dato Sebastian Ting

With 2014 behind us, we put away the bad things and look forward to 2015 with hope for a better year.

The year 2014 have both its blessings as our new Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem proves to be a Chief Minister for his people with his liberal policies and his caring attitude for a better Sarawak.

I look forward to his guidance and support his policies to transform Sarawak to see more good days ahead both economically, socially and politically.

I am very sure that Adenan will continue to get rid of corruption, religious bigots and further promote goodwill, mutual respects in both religion and culture among the multi-racial society we are living in. He has not only said it but he has shown it by barring extremists from entering our soil to ensure that these bigots do not soil Sarawakians’ minds.

With such courage, we in Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) stand firmly behind our Chief Minister to be with him in supporting his policies.

2014 had its blessings and misfortune for SUPP. Our Party had our share of internal problems.  We sincerely apologise for this..  However,  We are thankful that, this was a thing of the past. SUPP with its new Central Working Committee is more positive and our members are now on the ground to be with the people with the sole purpose of servicing and helping them.  From within this negative outlook, we have learned to rise out of the crisis stronger. That is the spirit of us, SUPP.

Sarawak is indeed blessed with natural resources and we are thankful that Sarawak is shielded against natural disasters. In many ways, we are lucky than other countries which faces earthquakes, typhoon and other natural disasters annually. Thus, we should in our own ways work towards building a better Sarawak for ourselves. We should not be influenced by negative ideas from disruptive groups who are out to sow the seeds of anger and hatred.

SUPP is trying our best to ensure that the public is more aware about the implementation of GST. The most important thing is to understand what GST is all about and we sincerely hope to see the smooth implementation of GST in April 2015.

Malaysia has been affected by three airborne tragedies in 2014, the missing MH 370 in March followed by the MH 17 which was shot down in July. Just a few days ago, Air Asia QZ8501 crashed in the Java Sea. We also see the destruction of floods in many parts of West Malaysia where our own Malaysians suffered tremendous losses of properties. We see their suffering but relieved that some of them are housed in evacuation centres.

It is through these tragedies that we all learned to come together, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or political differences and by extending a helping hand to fellow Malaysians who are in pain and in grief. This is what Malaysia is made of.

Although Sarawak is not affected by the floods, our thoughts and prayers are with them.

With the coming New Year, let us look forward with hope  and ensure that we continue to safeguard our Peace and Harmony.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members, supporters as well as friends, a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2015.

Dato Sebastian Ting
