Dato Sebastian: Sarawak has no place for Isma

Sarawak has no place for people from Ikatan Muslim in Malaysia (Isma) who had recently advised Malaysian Muslims to conduct preaching during Christmas and that wishing Malaysian Christians “merry Christmas” would be tantamount to Muslims admitting that God has a son, said Sarawak United Peoples” Party (SUPP) Secretary general, Dato’ Sebastian Ting.

Ting condemned such statement and said this group of people and Perkasa should never step foot in Sarawak as they are not welcomed with such extremists views.

“I am very disturbed upon learning that this extremist group could come up with such statement. We Malaysians pride ourselves to be a country of moderation and have accepted each other with mutual respect all these years. We have been living in harmony and unity,’ he added.

Since Perkasa and Isma emerged a few years ago, Ting said there has been nothing good coming out from them. “They preach extremist views and instead of bringing all Malaysians together, they were tearing the fabric of Malaysian society. This attitude is not for this age and time and definitely not bringing all Malaysians together.

I believe the Islam religion  preaches peace, love, goodwill, care and harmony among all people.

“It is therefore very unfortunate that Isma is not  seen to be promoting the good values of Islam.  Let us be moderates and respect all religions as all religions only teach and preach good values, such as respect for  each other and their religions.
We should avoid anything  that threatens to destroy the peace and harmony and/or promotes suspicion and uneasiness among Malaysians.” he said.

He also condemned the act of a Perkasa protestor who recently torn down a banner wishing people “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” in front of the Perak DAP headquarters. “That act is provocative and certainly not an act of peace.  We hope this will not happen again.”  said Ting.

As this Christmas season, we must also reach out and preach peace and goodwill.  We must therefore be forgiving and pray for them with the hope that one day they would also join us in our journey of promoting peace, care , love and harmony.
