Dato Sebastian on the scourge of drugs
The existence of a huge drug seizure at the Miri Airport is a cause for concern and everyone should join hands to fight this menace that could threaten the whole nation.
SUPP Secretary general, Dato’ Sebastian Ting said he was worried when he read of the drug bust at the Miri Airport on Thursday, where a youth was arrested and 100 kg of shabu valued at RM 30 million were seized.
Ting said although it was not exactly clear where the drugs came from and where the target market was to be, it already posed a question of whether there were drugs in the past which had managed to slip past the authorities.
Saying that it was a frightening thought that there was a huge amount of drugs recovered, Ting said the case had sparked a lot of fear to Mirians as parents have already expressed their concern.
Drugs not only harm the people taking it but can bring down a whole family, and a society. “Once hooked on drugs, to get them to clean up takes a long time and there was always the fear of relapse. Prevention is certainly better than cure,” he added.
Ting hoped that the authority concerned would get to the bottom of the case and at the same time he congratulated the police for not taking bribe as allegedly offered by the suspect.
He said in time like this, everyone should join force to fight against the menace and to report on any illegal usage of drugs. “With joint efforts, we could keep this scourge at bay as there are already fear of drugs being abused by students,” he added.
