Bible burning

SUPP  Secretary General, Dato’ Sebastian Ting said he was shocked to the core when he read Tun Mahathir’s statement.

Mahathir claimed that it is justifiable for Perkasa President, Ibrahim Ali to burn the Malay language Bible like the Quran as it was done to Muslims burning old copies of the Quran so that it would not be thrown out like garbage.

Ting said everyone knew that Ibrahim had said that out of anger and hatred when talking about burning of the Bible and it was not what Dr. Mahathir meant.

“I must say I am very disappointed with what was said by a former Prime Minister. He should promote peace and bring together people from all races and religions so that our country will be great. It is so terrible for our country to be segregated just because of the difference of race and religion. Instead of promoting harmony, Dr. Mahathir’s words would divide us,” said Ting in despair.

Fortunately for Sarawak, Ting said the people are very clear on the Allah issue. The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem, had repeatedly said that the word Allah can be used here.

The Chief Minister had said, “ You practise your religion as you like and I practise mine. I respect your religion and your way of practice and likewise you do the same. It is between me and my God. And for the bigots, stay out of Sarawak. You are not welcome here.”

“We thank God that our Chief Minister stand above all these. We thank God he practise common sense and see to it that Sarawakians of all races and religion remain united and live in harmony. Our Chief Minister has hold a beacon of light in all these dark times,” Ting added.

Ting called to the people of Sarawak to stay together, regardless of race or religion and be there for one another during this senseless period.
