Renovation of Community Hall In Kampung Pasir, Lutong Completed

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting announced that the renovation of the Kampung Pasir assembly hall in Lutong has been successfully completed.

The overall environment and facilities have been significantly improved, providing a more comfortable and convenient public space for local residents.

While inspecting the project and presiding over the handover ceremony recently, Ting noted that he had visited the site many times. He said the hall used to be shabby, but now, after years of hard work and phased construction, it has been transformed.

“As you can see, there are now pavilions, fences, and offices. These are the result of gradual improvements. Over the past few years, we have continuously improved the infrastructure to make this a more complete community center.”

He revealed that the land is considered kampung land, and any construction requires a special permit. After much effort, the relevant authorities have approved the construction application and agreed to install an electricity supply.

“The electricity company (Sesco) has sent a letter stating no objection, and I have personally written to the regional manager requesting the connection work. They have already provided a quote of approximately RM2,000, and the contractor will be paying the relevant fees this morning. We hope to have power connected before Christmas.”

Ting noted that the total cost of the renovation project is RM100,000. The contract period runs from February 10 to April 25, 2025, with a deadline of May 9 for completion. Everything is progressing smoothly.

“We witnessed the official handover of the project. We only await Sesco’s approval for the power connection before it can be fully operational.”

He recalled the significant investment in the area over the years, including the initial investment of RM150,000 for the pavilion and approximately RM80,000 for the perimeter wall.

“I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and support throughout the process, which has given this community a new look.”

Ting said that the new service center will provide greater convenience for local residents, eliminating the need for residents to travel to private homes or temporary locations for assistance.

“In the past, local representatives often complained about road flooding at the end of each year. Now, the drainage system and roads have improved significantly, and the situation is much better than before.”

He emphasized that the area falls under the jurisdiction of the service center and will continue to assist residents in resolving their livelihood issues.
