Lo Khere Chiang on Party 66th Anniversary Celebrations

The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), now celebrating its 66th anniversary, continues to stand as a resilient and enduring force in the state’s political landscape, said Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang.

He said the anniversary is not only a time to reflect on the party’s historic founding but also a moment to reaffirm unity and a shared commitment to building a stronger future for Sarawak.

“We are gathered here today to show our unity, to remember the struggles of the past, and to move forward as one team under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he said after attending the flag-raising ceremony held at SUPP’s headquarters on Jalan Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui on Wednesday.

As SUPP’s Deputy Secretary-General, Dato Lo highlighted the importance of preserving historical values, which represent both the party’s and Sarawak’s long and meaningful journey.

“SUPP is Sarawak’s oldest political party. With that comes a deep heritage and a wealth of experience.

“From the beginning, our leaders have fought for Sarawak’s independence. That struggle remains relevant today. We are determined to defend Sarawak’s rights and to safeguard our resources,” he said.

Dato Lo, who also chairman of the SUPP Batu Kitang Branch, expressed full confidence in the leadership of SUPP President Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, whom he described as the right person to carry the hopes of the Sarawakian people.

“Sarawak is heading in the right direction with a strong emphasis on education and encouraging our youth to pursue knowledge. These are crucial steps toward a brighter future.

“Under the leadership of Datuk Amar Dr Sim, SUPP is moving forward with unity and purpose to ensure Sarawak’s continued strength and growth,” he added.

Dato Lo also welcomed the growing involvement of young people in the party, calling it a promising sign for the future.

“We must help the younger generation understand the role of SUPP and GPS in protecting Sarawak’s rights. This is not just about politics as it is about safeguarding the future of our state,” he said.
