MPP Chairman, Cr. Tan Kai response to the 3rd Mile Market Toilet Issue

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) acknowledges the concerns raised regarding the toilet condition at the 3rd Mile Market. The issue was caused by a blockage in the floor trap and the old drainage pipe.

This obstruction has led to slow drainage and intermittent flooding, which requiring major rectification, including hacking and reconstruction of the drainage system.

MPP Chairman, Cr. Tan Kai, informed reporters that the toilet facility at the 3rd Mile Market is very old and in need of a complete upgrading works. In response, MPP has received an approved BP1 project this year to upgrade the entire toilet, and the contract is being awarded today.

The upgrading works will transform the existing toilet into a Bersih, Menawan dan Wangi (BMW) toilet under KPKT’s initiative, with the following scope of work:

  1. Construction of new toilet cubicles
  2. New tiling works
  3. Replacement of windows and doors
  4. New ceiling installation
  5. Upgrading of sanitary fittings
  6. Installation of table top with wash hand basin
  7. Plumbing works
  8. Installation of downlights for better lighting

MPP assures the hawkers and market-goers that this matter is being handled with urgenc and commitment, and regrets any inconvenience caused during this period. The Counc remains focused on improving public facilities under its care and delivering better service the people.
