Deputy Premier, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian urges public to seek help immediately if bitten by dogs
Sarawak Health department has been taking steps to assist those who are bitten by dogs.
More health centres in Kuching and Serian are set up to handle dog bites.
Deputy Premier, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian in Serian, victims bitten by dogs in Serian can go to Serian Hospital, Klinik Kesihatan (KK) Balai Ingin, KK Bunan Gega, KK Siburan and KK Terbedu.
In Kuching, they can go to Sarawak General hospital, Klinik Kesihatan Tanah Puteh, KK Batu Kawa, KK Padawan, KK Tabuan, Bau hospital and Lundu hospital.
He advised that should anyone be bitten by a dog, he should immediately wash the bite wound with running water and soap for at least 15 minutes. Then seek immediately treatment at the nearest health facility (post-bite clinic).
This year, a total of 13 rabies death cases among human was detected in Sarawak from January to August. 15 cases were reported. Since 2017, the total rabies cases stood at 70 with 63 death.
Rabies was first detected in July 2017 where two siblings in Serian died within days after being bitten by a neighbor puppy infected from its mother.
