Five markets in Padawan Municipal council jurisdiction closed from September 3 until further notice
The five markets in the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) jurisdiction closed today (Sept 3)after hawkers were being exposed to Covid 19. The affected markets are the Kota Padawan Market, Kota Sentosa Market, Sungai Maong Market, Cat’s Walk Night Street Market and the Taman Desa Wira Temporary Hawkers Centre.
Padawan Municipal council Chairman, Lo Khere Chiang said they are not sure of the number of positive cases but he believed that the Ministry of Health (KKM) order to close down is to safeguard the public’s safety and well being. The closure, he added, is also to see that sanitation works are carried out at the markets and to carry out tests on all of the hawkers and workers there.
Lo added that there are other smaller markets in and around the MPP area which are still safe to operate.
He urged hawkers to maintain the highest hygiene for themselves and their families. He said SOP must be followed at all times and advised the hawkers and patrons to wear their masks properly.
