Clearing stagnant water blockage

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) was recently approached by residents at  Sin San Tu, off Jalan Matang Batu Kawa who requested for assistance to address their predicament of stagnant water due to land filling by a private landowner which resulted in the blocking of a natural drain flowing through his land.

The blockage of the natural drain happened more than 6 months ago and was causing the affected residents of Sin San Tu anxiety and great inconvenience.

Following the requests for assistance received, SUPP PCB Chief Wilfred Yap together with Jong Tien Kiong, the special officer of YB Datuk Prof Sim Kui Hian had gone to inspect and assess the situation to see what can be done to resolve the problems raised by the affected residents.

Subsequent to the visit, it was discovered that the Drainage & Irrigation Department are already aware of the problem but was unable to proceed to unblock the natural drain as the cause of the blockage was on private land and as such required the private landowner’s consent.

A meeting was subsequently arranged with the private landowner to discuss with him the predicament of the stagnant water affecting residents of Sin San Tu.

The private landowner consented and allowed the Drainage & Irrigation Department to enter his land for the purpose of clearing the blockage of the natural drain. They are now arranging for clearing works of the blockage.
