Nostalgia of Rice Dumpling Making
About 100 people attended the ‘Nostalgia of Rice Dumpling Making’ event at CityOne Megamall here, held in conjunction with the Dragon Boat Festival.
There was a demonstration by Zurina Abdullah on how to make halal rice dumplings, which uses chicken meat to replace the pork filing.
Zurina explained that she also replaces what the Hokkien call ‘kau lak’ – a type of chestnut – with peanuts as the former is expensive.
The event was jointly run by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pending branch Women’s Section, Fullan Recreational Club and Chawan Road village security and development committee (JKKK).
The Dragon Boat Festival or ‘Duan Wu Jie’ is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar.
