SUPP President CNY message
In conjunction with the arrival of the Year Of The Rooster 2017, SUPP leadership at all levels – Central Working Committee, Central Youth, Central Women, and all branches and sub-branches – would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone and all at home a Chinese New Year full of joy, harmony and good health.
This festive season is an important time for the Chinese community. It not only represent reunion and unity, but also – just like fellow Malaysians of other races in their festive periods – a time to welcome all with open arms through open houses. Let’s us celebrate together irrespective of race or religion. This is a time to mix and mingle, to exchange thoughts, develop friendships, and achieve better understanding towards each other. Indeed, the tradition of mutual understanding and cooperation is the foundation of our society.
While the methods we communicate are fast changing in the face of rapidly evolving information technologies, let us not forego the value of face-to-face interpersonal communication to maintain the warmth and relationship amongst friends and family. Let us not lose touch, take opportunities like this festive season to visit our loved ones.
It is foreseen that the coming year is a time of challenges, and also a time of anticipation.
In terms of challenges, we are one way or another would be affected by various factors such as the uncertainties of the global financial markets, inflation, fluctuating crude oil prices and other factors. Hence, we have to be prepared to meet these challenges.
In terms of anticipation, it is because Sarawak has now entered a new chapter under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang Haji Openg.
We were deeply saddened by the passing of the late chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem on 11 January. In his short tenure, he had made a huge difference in our lives not only through his 53 principles and actions, but also his outspoken and staunch stand on demanding the return of Sarawakian rights and autonomy from the federal government. He was the beacon to the spirit of “Sarawak for Sarawakians”.
Although he has left us, but his spirit and love for Sarawak will forever be in the hearts of every Sarawakian.
BN Sarawak is committed to continue his policies and fulfil his aspirations. There will be no change of policy direction, including the demand for autonomy and fund allocations to educational institutions irrespective of race.
We hope that the Chinese community in Sarawak will continue to support the Sarawak government under the leadership of CM Abang Johari, especially in the forthcoming parliamentary general elections. This general election will have direct consequences to our ability to make advancement in the regaining of Sarawakian autonomy. Remember the words of Tok Nan, and love Sarawak as much as he did. We must be vigilant in safeguarding Sarawak from further harm by political parties from Malaya.
It is our believe that so long as Sarawakians stay united in safeguarding Sarawak’s interests, we can together shape a better future for Sarawak.
Once again, on behalf of SUPP, here’s wishing a fulfilling new year to all and their loved ones. Happy Chinese New Year.
