SUPP Youth on “Sarawak for Sarawakians”

After Sarawak Chief Minister YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib bin Haji Mahmud’s made a call to “keep Sarawak for Sarawakians” and Minister of Rural and Regional Development YB Datuk Seri Mohamad Shafie Apdal’s reassurance that UMNO will not come into Sarawak, Sarawak DAP Chairman YB Chong Chieng Jen had also urged Sarawak BN component parties to co-operate and work with Pakatan Rakyat in order to keep UMNO from expanding its political influences into the state.

SUPP Central Youth Chief Tan Kai said, since our nation gained its independence over half a century ago, Sarawak BN component parties have spared no effort in safeguarding the interests and special rights granted to the state of Sarawak and its people by upholding the spirits of 18-point agreement.

Furthermore, he added that Sarawak BN which comprised of four component parties, has all this while, effectively vindicated the interests of our people as well as the autonomy of the state’s administration.

“Interestingly, YB Chong had insisted for a motion to be tabled in the state legislature assembly so as to formalize the agreement. Not only is this redundant, I personally think he is having trouble catching on.”

SUPP has, since the day it was formed, given much emphasis on the importance of having political parties that are formed and administered by our own Sarawakian. At the same time, SUPP also stands strongly and firmly against any form of political linkages with extreme parties that promote theocratic politics. It is interesting that while Sarawak DAP had called for a motion to be tabled to stop UMNO from entering Sarawak, its leaders did not mention even a word relating to the radical PAS and PKR, which both are West Malaysia based opposition parties.

“If Chong was serious in keeping the West Malaysian parties out of Sarawak, then he should include PAS and PKR in his ‘kick out’ list as well, or else, the people of Sarawak are hardly convinced.”

Besides that, Tan Kai also suggested that Chong and all other DAP leaders along with their members in Sarawak should also quit the party and form a new party so that they are no longer controlled by their West Malaysian leaders in ensuring that the interests and rights of our Sarawakian people are better safeguarded and upheld. “Only if he was really serious and meant what he said, pertaining to our Chief Minister’s ‘Keep Sarawak for Sarawakians’ calling.”
