STATEMENT BY TAN SRI PETER CHIN FAH KUI, PRESIDENT

STATEMENT BY TAN SRI PETER CHIN FAH KUI, PRESIDENT OF SARAWAK UNITED PEOPLES’ PARTY REGARDING THE ANNOUNCEMENT BY YAB PEHIN SRI ABDUL TAIB MAHMUD, CHIEF MINISTER OF SARAWAK ON 9th FEBRUARY, 2014 CONCERNING HIS INTENTION TO RESIGN AS CHIEF MINISTER OF SARAWAK.

Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP) as a component party in the Barisan Nasional (BN) accepts the announcement by YAB Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud of his impending resignation as the Chief Minister of Sarawak with some mixed reactions as to the consequences which may occur in Sarawak and BN. YAB Pehin Sri had been preparing for this event for some time already and now that the announcement is made, I do appeal for calm from everyone in order that YAB Pehin Sri’s successor will get be able to carry on with the development of the State and to propel the economic prosperity of the Sate to be the highest in the country.

SUPP is willing and able to work closely with the new Chief Minister of Sarawak for the further development of the State and the welfare of all Sarawakians.

YAB Tan Sri has devoted such a long period of his life to serve the country and the State. His dedication to work and his many innovative policies introduced over the years have no doubt taken roots as well as yielding results in terms of economic transformation to both urban and rural areas alike. The fact that Sarawak ranks second amongst the States in the country in terms of per capital GDP is no coincidence but coming from long and sustained efforts on the part of the State Government. No body can deny this fact. SUPP, being a component of the State Barisan Nasional since 1974, is proud to recognise this fact as its leaders have been working closely with YAB Pehin Sri since 1981 when YAB Pehin Sri took on the job of Chief Minister in the State.

Every leader has to face this crucial time of his life when he has to make the decision to retire from public life; no matter what position of power that he might hold. Tun Mahatir and Tun Abdullah Badawi did so and now YAB Pehin Sri will be doing so.

SUPP wishes to thank YAB Pehin Sri for his invaluable contributions while serving in various capacities in the Federal as well as the State government. SUPP wishes him and Puan Sri Ragad Taib happy retirement and hope that his successors and others will be able to benefit from his rich and diverse experiences.
