Tan Sri Peter’s advice to Youth – stay united despite contest
SUPP President, Tan Sri Peter Chin called on the youth delegates to remain united and focus on the tasks they have to face in the future.
Speaking at the opening of the Triennial delegate’s conference (TDC) of the Youth Wing at the Grand continental Hotel today, Chin said that there are many ways to elect in a leader through dialogue and not necessary to be through a contest.
The incumbent Youth Chairman, Tan Kai is expected to see a challenge from Milton Foo, a lawyer who is also from the Pending branch.
Chin shared with the youth delegates his conversation with Treasurer Datuk David Teng. Teng who retired yesterday from the Central Committee, told Chin that in difficult times when the party is weak, it is better for them to stay united and not contest for positions.
Teng in his wisdom, said Chin had told him that the best time to contest is when the party is strong and ready to face anything.
“I think it is good to heed the wise words of a veteran. Sink your differences and do not worry about positions. You all have a long way to go,” said Chin.
He said through dialogue and discussion, they would be able to find out who is most suitable for the post offered.
Stating that SUPP is a traditional party, Chin called to them to work hard and be focused and work their way up. You never know that you may one day be in the Central committee or in the Central working committee if you are willing to work for the society, the country,” he said.
Advising them that it is not about sitting in the office and delegating people but more of going to the ground and get to know the people and doing services. Time should not to be used for going to pubs or karaoke but sacrifices must be made to know more about the party and provide service to the people. If not, he pointed out, it would be a waste of time being in the Youth.
Advising the delegates to work out the committee, he said they should not fight or quarrel among themselves. “If there must be a contest, you all must be gentlemen about it,” he added.
