Adam Yii continues as Miri mayor, pledges sustainable and inclusive growth

Adam Yii has officially been sworn in to continue serving as Mayor of Miri, marking the start of his new term in office.

Speaking after the oath taking ceremony at the Miri City Council building, Yii said he would carry out his duties with humility and a strong sense of responsibility, in line with the trust and expectations placed upon him.

“I assume this role with great humility and a deep sense of responsibility. I am truly honoured and grateful for the confidence entrusted to me,” he said.

Yii described Miri as a diverse and growing city filled with opportunities, adding that its future development must be guided by sustainability, inclusiveness and forward looking planning.

“My vision is to further strengthen Miri’s position as a livable, resilient and progressive city, while advancing towards becoming a green, smart and most livable international resort city,” he said.

He added that the Miri City Council would continue to enhance the quality of public services, improve infrastructure, and accelerate digital transformation, while also strengthening environmental protection and sustainable development efforts to elevate the overall standard of the city.

Yii also stressed the importance of maintaining close engagement with the community, noting that the council would continue to listen to public feedback and work hand in hand with stakeholders to ensure that development aligns with the needs and expectations of the people.

During his speech, he expressed appreciation to Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, for attending the ceremony and demonstrating continued support for Miri’s development.

He also thanked the Sarawak Government, relevant agencies and stakeholders for their trust and confidence in entrusting him with the responsibility.

At the same time, Yii commended the dedication and professionalism of Miri City Council councillors, the council secretary, department heads and staff, describing them as key to ensuring the efficient delivery of municipal services.

He pledged to uphold integrity, accountability and a strong sense of duty in working with the council team, and called on all parties to remain united in building a better and more prosperous future for Miri.
