Miri religious school renovation completed

The construction of a covered multi purpose hall at a religious school here has been successfully completed and was officially launched today.

The project was funded through a RM150000 allocation under the 2024 Rural Transformation Programme by Deputy Minister for Tourism Sarawak, Datuk Sebastian Ting.

Ting handed over the project in October last year and construction began in December under the supervision of the Public Works Department. Although it was scheduled for completion on April 29 this year, the project was completed a month ahead of schedule due to smooth progress.

During the ceremony, Ting also presented an annual grant of RM5000 to the school to support its daily operations and development.

Parent Teacher Association chairman Jeffrey Hassin said the school, established in 1956, has a history spanning 71 years. The newly completed hall, finished in April this year, will mainly be used for various student activities.

He added that although the hall has been completed, it still lacks proper lighting facilities. He expressed appreciation for Ting’s continued support and hoped for further assistance in the future to improve the school’s infrastructure.

The school currently has about 200 students, who attend government schools in the morning before returning to the religious school in the afternoon and evening for religious classes.
