MPP Councillor Slams DAP Over Unfair Claims on Illegal Advertisements

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) councillor Alvin Chong has strongly refuted allegations made by Michael Kong, the special assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, that the council has failed to act against illegal advertisements and loan shark banners.

Chong stressed that MPP has been consistently proactive in removing illegal advertisements, banners, and buntings, including those put up by unlicensed moneylenders, despite such activities not falling directly under the council’s jurisdiction.

“To say that MPP is not taking action is completely untrue. Our Enforcement Division removes illegal advertisements whenever they are found, especially in residential and commercial areas,” he said.

He explained that the council also works closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (IPD Padawan) under Ops Vulture, a joint enforcement operation specifically targeting illegal moneylender advertisements. In 2025 alone, five such operations have been carried out, in addition to MPP’s own regular enforcement efforts.

Expressing disappointment, Chong accused DAP of attempting to exploit the issue for political mileage. “Michael Kong has never done his homework. Instead, he makes baseless accusations with the sole agenda of tarnishing the reputation of GPS and MPP,” he said.

Chong, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of MPP’s Market, Licensing and Enforcement Standing Committee, further questioned the role of the Stampin MP.

“If this matter is beyond the council’s legal authority, what concrete actions has the Member of Parliament taken apart from issuing statements?” he asked.

He confirmed MPP’s commitment to continue enforcement operations to ensure Padawan remains a sustainable and liveable area for its residents.
