Ding expresses disappointment with MoE

SUPP Central Bureau Chief, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing expressed his disappointment on Ministry of Education (MoE) department to follow the decision which was made by ex PH government on Seni Khat teaching at all SJK© primary 5 classes.

Ding said Chinese communities are against Seni Khat teaching in SJK© because it might jeopardize Chinese schools’ structure, yet MoE ignore this voices and still determine to implement it.

“However, we are pleased to hear that Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee said that the teaching of Jawi for Primary 5 pupils next year is not compulsory, citing a Ministry of Education (MoE) letter dated Dec 20 last year clearly stated that the teaching of Jawi could only be implemented if the respective parent-teacher associations (PTAs) or boards of management would agree to it. There are 222 SJK© in Sarawak, and only one school accepted the jawi teaching during the survey due to the fact that this school having bumi students. The survey clearly show that majority of Chinese parents not accept and reject jawi teaching in schools, ” he pointed out.

Ding said they strongly object the attempt to force SJK© to implement seni khat teaching in primary schools’ subjects, no matter whether such decision was made during ex PH federal government or the current PN government. SUPP is not against seni khat, but is objecting it being injected into SJK© subjects, because it brings no benefit to the students.

PN federal government is the ruling party now, they have absolute rights to object those unfavour policies or a policy which causes unease among all ethnic groups.

Again, he said SUPP urges PN government to put on hold or cancel ex PH government’s decision to teach seni khat in SJK©.

“SUPP strongly object any policies which might jeopardize Chinese education development, and we hope that Chinese community and parents can come together to supervise MoE’s policies, especially the implementation of seni khat teaching in schools by next year. We can not let such policy jeopardize Chinese schools’ development” he stated.
