Tan Kai scolds Deputy Religious Affair Minister
Political secretary to the Sarawak chief minister Tan Kai’s statement on restriction on liquor sales and Deputy Religious Affairs Minister Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government has not ruled out extending the ban to other states,
He said he is strongly against such uncivilized policy and it is contradicted with MA63 spirits as all ethnic groups living in tolerance, understanding and mutual respect among each other, race and religion harmony are all the unique culture in Sarawak that we are proud of.
Sarawak, he added has its own autonomy on our local government decrees, thus, I believe that Sarawak government will not applying such uncivilized federal policy in here.
Tan Kai believe that, self-disciplined drinking and strict enforcement is the key to tackle drink-driving issues, but not through liquor sales ban on businesses. Malaysia is a secular state, not a religious state, those Islamic country, Turkey and Abu Dhabi allow liquor sales, hence, it will be a jokes for other because of our uncivilized policy to ban liquor here.
“Covid-19 pandemic has affected a lot of businesses, we no needs such unnecessary policy to add more burden on them.”
Furthermore, Tan Kai says that most businesses comply with the requirement for not selling any liquor or beer to those below 18 years old.
