Datuk Sebastian Ting thumbs up to CM for free public transport
State Assemblyman for Piasau, Datuk Sebastian Ting gave a thumb up to YAB Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s announcement that the Sarawak Government may consider to provide free bus services in cities like those in Peninsular Malaysia is a well-thought-out idea and is most welcomed as it helps to ease traffic woes as well as reducing the financial burden on the lower income group.
He said the inadequate infrastructures for public transport coupled with the booming vehicles on its the road have caused serious annoyance to the road users.
“I have stated it in the last DUN sitting in November that as Sarawak develops and prospers, especially the city centres, the public transportation will become a necessity infrastructure to the issue of having too many cars on the road and creating unnecessary traffic jam.I am happy that YAB Chief Minister also shared the same thoughts that the Sarawak Government should plan ahead to provide free bus services in order to encourage the usage of public transport as well as developing efficient public transportation that not only depends on road but also LRT for the people living in major cities such as Kuching, Miri, Sibu and Bintulu,” said Ting.
Calling it a people-centric policy that will help many lower income group in reducing their financial burden, Ting hoped that Chief Minister will also consider about the school buses operators as over the years they are being affected by the rising petrol prices. He added that a simple form of financial assistance to them will go a long way after all they are doing a noble job bringing our students to schools and back to home safely.
”I also want to add on that green energy is the future as I hope Sarawak will soon have buses that runs on water as fuel and it is something that YAB Chief Minister is pushing very hard for,” he added.
